ER Studio Data Modeling / Repository Development

Description

This seminar provides an overview of data modeling and meta data management, along with training in the data modeling product, ER Studio, from Embarcadero Technologies. ER Studio enables data modelers and database analysts to create, understand, and manage all database designs within an enterprise. ER Studio has strong logical design capabilities, the ability to manage logical-to-physical models, reverse engineer database structures into logical design, and provides robust meta data management support and reporting capabilities.

In addition to data modeling and database design, this course includes an overview of meta data management concepts and shows how to use ER Studio as a basic meta data repository.

This ICCP-certified class is workshop focused since design concepts are best learned from doing. The final workshops are oriented to solving problems that you have in your current projects. The workshops allow you to learn how the concepts are applied and how to develop skills in data modeling and meta data management for all types of systems. Students are expected to have a basic understanding of data modeling concepts.

Objectives

The objectives of the course are to:

  • Review basic data modeling concepts
  • Demonstrate steps in data modeling progression (conceptual, logical, physical)
  • Learn data modeling with ER Studio (logical, sub-models, physical)
  • Learn ER Studio methods for modeling and database design
  • Learn the capabilities of meta data management with ER Studio

You will:

  • Develop data models with ER Studio (logical, physical, reverse engineer, etc.)
  • Create and add meta data within the ER Studio repository
  • Implement modeling and meta data standards using ER Studio
  • Develop reports using ER Studio’s reporting facilities
